Personal Color Analysis in Seoul: What It Costs and Whether It's Worth It
What a Seoul personal color session costs, how it works, how to book, and when it earns its price. Based on 41 booking listings and two 2026 guides.

In this guide5
Personal color analysis is a studio session where a consultant holds fabrics under your face and tells you which colors suit you. In Seoul it has become a standard add-on for inbound travelers. Here is our read up front: it earns its price only if you plan to shop right after. If you don't, skipping it costs you nothing.
- English-session price: Two 2026 guides put it at ₩120,000–180,000. On the booking platform Creatrip, 41 listings start at $34 to $261, with a middle value around $125 (as of October 11, 2026).
- Where: Of the 41 listings, 11 are in Hongdae, 11 in the Gangnam side, 7 in Myeongdong and Jung-gu. Myeongdong-area listings are the cheapest ($34 to $125) and Gangnam-side the priciest ($112 to $209).
- Time: Usually 60 to 90 minutes. 35 of the 41 listings are tagged as English-friendly.
- Booking: Popular studios fill up weeks to two months ahead. The three Creatrip listings we checked all offered free cancellation or changes up to 3 days before.
- Verdict: Worth it if you'll go straight to Olive Young or a hair salon afterward. Skip it otherwise.
What happens in a personal color session?
Two 2026 guides (K-Life Lab, March; kissinskin, July) describe the same order. We list only what they agree on.
- A short interview: about color preferences, how you dress, and what bothers you.
- A device reading: some studios use a color-measuring device to read skin brightness and tone.
- Draping: you wear a white cape while the consultant holds different colored fabrics against your face and compares them.
- The result: a palette card and makeup or clothing recommendations. Some studios use a 12-type system instead of the basic four seasons.
A one-on-one session usually runs 60 to 90 minutes. The guides advise arriving with a bare face (no foundation or tint), switching colored contact lenses for clear ones or glasses, and bringing the makeup bag you use.
What does it cost?
Two guides put English sessions at ₩120,000 to ₩180,000 (one also reports Korean-language sessions at ₩70,000 to ₩90,000). One explains the premium as the cost of an English-speaking consultant or an interpreter.
For something more specific, we looked at the booking platform Creatrip. Here are the 41 listings we saw on October 11, 2026, grouped by area, with the platform's "from" price in US dollars.
| Area | Listings | "From" price range (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Hongdae | 11 | $74.60 – $261.11 |
| Gangnam side (Gangnam, Seocho, Sinsa, Apgujeong) | 11 | $111.90 – $208.89 |
| Myeongdong, Jung-gu, Euljiro | 7 | $34.32 – $125.33 |
| Seongsu | 3 | $72.36 – $134.28 |
| Elsewhere in Seoul (Yeouido, City Hall, Yongsan, Guro) | 4 | $74.60 – $167.86 |
| Outside Seoul (Jeju, Busan) | 2 | $82.06 – $141.74 |
| No area listed (packages) | 3 | $108.17 – $176.81 |
The middle value (21st of 41) is about $125. 35 of the 41 listings carry an English tag.
How to read the table:
- These are "from" prices and they change with date and option. No date was selected when we looked. The same listing's price also moved by a few cents between two visits a day apart (it looks like exchange-rate movement, but we couldn't confirm).
- Bundles stretch the range at both ends. Some listings combine hanbok, hair, a makeup class or body analysis, so always check what's included.
- Don't trust the discount labels. They show 6% to 27% off list price, and a few show more. That is the platform's display, not a regular price.
- We don't recommend individual studios here. We can't verify each one's opening status, so check recent reviews before you book.
Where do you book?
- Booking platforms: Sites like Creatrip show an "English" tag, so check it.
- Direct: Per the guides, you can message studios in English on Instagram DM or a KakaoTalk channel, and some ask for a deposit. Ask first whether they accept overseas payment.
- Cancellation: The three Hongdae listings we opened on Creatrip (Image HO, Color of You, Colorga sanda) all say free cancellation or changes up to 3 days before. Direct bookings have their own policies, so ask.
- What "English" means: These three pages say English interpretation is available. Ask before you book whether the consultant speaks English or an interpreter relays it.
- Timing: Popular studios fill up weeks to two months ahead. Book for your first or second day so you can shop at Olive Young with the result.
Is it worth the money?
This is our judgment. It's worth it if:
- You'll buy makeup or dye your hair within 48 hours.
- Choosing clothes or lip colors is always a struggle.
- You want one "experience" on the trip, and a starting price of $75 to $125 isn't a stretch.
Skip it if:
- You have no shopping planned. A palette card mostly goes unused once you're home.
- You want the result to be "the answer." We couldn't find recent (within three years) independent research on how accurate or consistent these sessions are. We read it as a stylist's opinion with a method, not a lab result. Studios may classify you differently, so ask whether they use four seasons or twelve types.
- Your budget is tight. One guide suggests a free self-test: hold gold and silver jewelry to your face, put white paper beside your cheek, and try coral against blue-pink lipstick. Trust the result if two of the three agree. There's no accuracy guarantee, but it costs nothing.
A few years ago, finding your personal color was a huge craze in Korea, and it lingers, so people still try it out. It starts with working out whether you're cool-toned or warm-toned, then goes on to finding colors that suit you, makeup methods and product picks to match, clothing style consulting and other related services. Personally, I don't recommend it. Whether a color suits you is a very subjective call, and I think it also changes with the day's TPO (time, place and occasion). It also costs more than you'd expect, so why not put your travel budget into other experiences? 🤔 Of course, if you still want to try it once, think of it as a memory too and just go for it. 😊
What can you pair it with in the same day?
Hair salons, facials and skincare shopping belong to the same series. In Hongdae, continue from the Hongdae hub. The demand is real: per a March 2026 Newsis report, Hyundai Department Store added a personal color consultation at The Hyundai Seoul to its foreigner tour pass, the Yeouido Pass.
Before you book, write the list of what you'll buy the next day. If the palette card shortens that list, $100 was fair. If not, you've bought a very expensive card.
English sessions: ₩120,000 to ₩180,000 per two 2026 guides. Creatrip's 41 listings (viewed October 11, 2026) start at $34.32 to $261.11, with a middle value around $125, and 35 carry an English tag. By area: Myeongdong and Jung-gu 7 listings ($34 to $125), Hongdae 11 ($75 to $261), Gangnam side 11 ($112 to $209). Sessions run 60 to 90 minutes; popular studios book up weeks to two months ahead. Prices are "from" prices and vary by date, option and bundle. We found no independent evidence on accuracy.
Note: Prices and availability change. This guide doesn't recommend individual studios and has no relationship with any business.
