You probably won't get a concert ticket. During a comeback week they sell out in minutes, and resale is expensive and risky. That's fine — you can still put together a genuinely good K-pop day without one. Here it is, ordered not by "how much of a fan you need to be" but by "how easily anyone can just show up."
1. Random Play Dance in Hongdae (Saturday afternoon)
This is the one to do. Around 3pm on a Saturday, near Hongik University Station Exits 8–9 — the "Walking Street" (걷고싶은거리) and the Hongik University playground — a playlist plays only the choruses of K-pop songs in random order, and anyone who knows the choreography jumps into the circle. The format comes from the variety show Weekly Idol. No ticket, no reservation, and you don't have to be able to dance — it's fun just to watch, and if you know even one song you can jump in. It's the fastest way for a visitor to make local friends in Seoul.
2. A birthday café (whichever one is running)
Fans rent out a café for three to five days to celebrate an idol's birthday and decorate it into a temporary shrine. Hongdae has around 50 in rotation at any time; there are more in Seongsu. You don't have to stan that idol to walk in — order a ₩5,000–7,000 americano, get the freebies (photocards and such), and see up close how much craft fans put into it. For the record, the idol almost never shows up. The fans don't expect it either.
3. A music show taping (if you plan ahead)
The most "real" experience and the most effort. Music Bank (Fri, KBS) and Inkigayo (Sun, SBS) offer free foreign-audience attendance. For Music Bank you make an account on the KBS site as a "Foreigner Living Abroad," upload a passport copy, then apply through the "audience application" (방청 신청) menu — there's a set application window (roughly Thursday morning through Saturday), and it's a lottery. The process and timing change often, so check the official KBS page. Each episode splits into a morning pre-recording (comeback stages) and an afternoon live broadcast.
4. Hongdae busking and cover-dance battles
Walk through Hongdae in the evening and you'll just run into it — cover-dance crews battle at the NOON Square outdoor stage and around Sangsangmadang. A no-planning filler.
Don't bother trying for a fansign. It runs on a lottery weighted by how many copies of an album you buy, which isn't realistic on a short trip.
