Skiing From Seoul Without a Car: A Day-Trip Guide
Six resorts a train, a bus and a free shuttle can reach. How each day works, and what to check before the 2026–27 season opens.

Ski resorts look like car territory. A few of them aren't: there are resorts in Gyeonggi and Gangwon that a train and a free shuttle reach from Seoul. This guide isn't ranking them. It's tracing how each day works. ⛷️
- Train plus free shuttle from Seoul: Elysian Gangchon (엘리시안 강촌) — Gyeongchun Line from Yongsan to Baegyangni Station (백양리역) in about an hour, then the resort's free shuttle.
- Konjiam (곤지암) is a taxi of about 10 minutes from Gonjiam Station on the Gyeonggang Line; Jisan Forest (지산 포레스트) is Bus 12 from Icheon Intercity Bus Terminal.
- Mona Yongpyong, Alpensia and High1 have free shuttles from KTX stations (Jinbu; Gohan and Sabuk).
- Opening dates for 2026–27 weren't announced as of October 6, 2026, but season passes for six resorts are already on sale. Last season the resorts above opened between November 21 (Mona Yongpyong) and December 12 (Jisan).
- Package tours and day tours from Seoul exist; prices vary by product, so check them directly.
How do you reach a ski resort from Seoul without a car?
| Resort | From Seoul | Opened last season |
|---|---|---|
| Elysian Gangchon (엘리시안 강촌) | Gyeongchun Line, Yongsan to Baegyangni Station, about 1 hour; free resort shuttle | December 5, 2025 |
| Konjiam Resort (곤지암리조트) | Gyeonggang Line to Gonjiam Station, then taxi about 10 minutes (the resort also lists a paid pickup shuttle from Jamsil Station) | December 10, 2025 |
| Jisan Forest Resort (지산 포레스트) | Bus 12 from Icheon Intercity Bus Terminal | December 12, 2025 |
| Mona Yongpyong (모나 용평) | KTX to Jinbu Station, free shuttle | November 21, 2025 |
| Alpensia (알펜시아) | KTX to Jinbu Station, free shuttle | December 4, 2025 |
| High1 (하이원) | Free shuttle from Gohan or Sabuk Station | November 28, 2025 |
Check the exact route with the resort and with Korail before you go. The Korea Tourism Organization lists these routes as of December 2025, and opening dates change every season. "Free shuttle" comes with conditions: Mona Yongpyong's KTX shuttle, for example, runs a few set times a day and asks for proof of a booking, so read the resort's shuttle page before you plan the day around it. Elysian's shuttle runs between Baegyangni Station and the resort at intervals of 20–30 minutes.
When do the resorts open?
Not announced yet. As of October 6, 2026, the resorts' notices don't carry 2026–27 opening dates, and the dates change every season. The resorts do plan to run, though: Elysian Gangchon began selling a 2026–27 season pass on September 9, 2026, covering six resorts including Mona Yongpyong, High1 and Alpensia. Last year's dates ran from November 21 to December 12, so late November to mid-December is the window to watch. Check each resort's official notices in November.
How does a ski day actually work?
- Lift tickets are sold by time blocks. Pick the length when you buy; check the current product on the resort's own site.
- Rental is on site. Resort rental shops also sell lesson packages, so ask about those at the counter.
- Early in the season, fewer slopes are open. That is worth knowing if you book a dated package.
- Dress for it. The cold is dry and hard; see Seoul in winter for what to wear.
Travelling as a group of four or more? A private van and driver can beat the train maths. And if you'd rather not plan a route at all, ski packages and day tours from Seoul are sold on the usual travel platforms; compare the current listings.
If you're not confident on skis or a snowboard, or you're travelling with a small child, consider a sledding hill instead. I'm not confident in winter sports, and I always go with my young son, so in winter we mostly go sledding. You don't have to travel all the way to Gangwon, because there are sledding hills inside Seoul. I'll introduce them in the next article!
A resort with a reliable shuttle loses you less of the day than one with a longer ride. 🙂
