Seoul Children's Grand Park in 2026: What's Actually Open, and How to Spend a Day

Seoul Children's Grand Park is free, open from 5am to 10pm every day, and holds a zoo, a playground, a children's museum and a small amusement park. It also has a botanical garden that has been closed since May 27, which some of this summer's guides haven't noticed.

What is Seoul Children's Grand Park, and is it the same as Seoul Grand Park?

Seoul Children's Grand Park (서울어린이대공원) sits at 216 Neungdong-ro (능동로), Gwangjin-gu (광진구), in the east of the city. It is not Seoul Grand Park (서울대공원), the separate and much larger zoo-and-amusement complex in Gwacheon (과천). The names are easy to mix up, so check which one you've saved. Entry to the Children's Grand Park is free, and according to the park's own page the gates are open from 05:00 to 22:00 all year.

What's open right now, and what isn't?

This is the status board as of 20 September 2026. It's built from the park's own notices (posted 19 May and 14 September 2026), a Seoul city article from 30 June and a September report on the rebuild. Anything in the note column without a date comes from the park's own pages, which don't carry dates.

What's happening to the zoo and the botanical garden?

The botanical garden (식물원) stopped operating on 27 May 2026 and is expected to stay closed until late 2027. A September 2026 report says construction to turn the 50-year-old building into a children's education and experience space starts in October 2026 and should finish by the end of 2027. So the greenhouse that guides love to recommend as a rainy-day stop is off the list for now.

The zoo is still open. The park's own guide describes about 50 species and 500 animals, a keeper feeding show from April to October (skipping June to August) and winter viewing limits for cold-sensitive animals; meerkats, for example, need more than 5°C. The same September report puts the zoo's reconstruction at completion by December 2029, with animal welfare and larger, more natural enclosures as goals. A 2025 report on the city's plan says species will be adjusted and ageing facilities demolished enclosure by enclosure, so the zoo isn't closing all at once. We couldn't find an announcement of when any section will close, so check the park's notices before you plan around the zoo.

Old information is still in circulation. An English guide dated July 2026 still describes the greenhouse as open, while the park's own notice says it has been closed since May.

How do you plan a day at the park with young kids?

1. Book the Seoul Children's Museum first. It's the one thing here that needs a booking.
2. Do the zoo in the morning. The park stays open until 22:00, but the zoo closes at 17:00.
3. Spend the middle of the day at the Maple Leaf Playground and on the lawn. Both are free.
4. Leave the rides for last, if at all. If big rides are the point, see Seoul's amusement parks compared.

The cost is simple. For two adults and two kids over 36 months, the museum comes to ₩16,000. The park, the playground and the lawn are free; stroller rental and parking cost extra, so check the park's page for current rates. The zoo has no separate entry fee. It goes through renovations from time to time, though, so some animals may not be on view when you go, and it changes every time. For the Seoul Children's Museum, I'd recommend booking. I understand you can sometimes queue and get in on the day when it's quiet, but you don't want to make the trip for nothing. As far as I know, the amusement park stays open until 18:30, even on weekends. The park lists the free pass at ₩30,000 for adults, ₩27,000 for teens and ₩26,000 for children, and there are also 5-ride and 3-ride tickets if you'd rather buy only what you need.

How do you get there, and which gate should you use?

• Main gate: Line 7 to Children's Grand Park Station (어린이대공원역), Exit 1. From Konkuk University Station (건대입구역) on Line 2, it's about a five-minute bus ride. Line changes are in how to ride the Seoul subway.
• Rear gate: Line 5 to Achasan Station (아차산역), Exit 4.
• There are four gates (main, rear, Guui and Neungdong), and walking between them takes 5–15 minutes, so pick the one closest to where you're headed.
• Parking: there is paid parking; check the park's page for rates.

What's on this fall?

The park's fall program, "Autumn Maples and Classical" (단풍 물든 클래식), runs 19 September–7 November with free classical concerts at the outdoor stage. The first date was a Seoul Philharmonic park concert scheduled for 19 September. Check the park's events page for dates.

What's worth noticing before you go?

The park is bigger than the map in your head, with 5–15 minutes between gates. The zoo closes hours before the park does. And the two things you'll read about most, the greenhouse and the old zoo, are exactly the two that have changed.
